When our sister publication, Maine magazine, decided to turn inward to our shared staff to produce the magazine’s 48 Hours column, a light bulb went off. Here we are, curating stories about Maine people and places every month, immersed in all that is going on in this great state—who better to write these weekend getaway travelogues than us? So every month, armed with our cameras and our curiosity, we explore slices of the state in 48-hour intervals. We dine, we shop, we museum hop, we play and stay, and then share our experiences with you in order to inspire your own weekend exploration of this place we all love.

Another, similar light bulb recently went off in our heads for Maine Home+Design’s Style Room, our monthly design board for a room, real or imagined. As gatherers of all things design-related, we were already creating these boards in our heads each month, cherry-picking things we love and trends we see by designers we cover. Why not come up with our own rooms, inject our personalities into them, and ask interior designers for help sourcing them? Each month our Style Room spread will include a room dreamed up by our staff members in order to share the gorgeous items from Maine designers and makers that we come across every day. Last month, editor-in-chief Susan Grisanti gathered her ideas for an art-filled white and gray living room in her historic house on Munjoy Hill. This month, art director Heidi Kirn curated a home office with her trademark style of mixing vintage and contemporary (Open Office, page 32), and next month, managing editor Rebecca Falzano will put together a bedroom makeover that is both restful and rejuvenating. In our feature stories, we give you a look at the whole house; in Style Room, we pull out the pieces—sharing with you the work of the remarkable designers helping to make our homes beautiful.
