Before the Barn

Our May cover story, “Into the Great Wide Open,” features the transformation of interior designer Linda Banks’s Falmouth ranch into a space best described as a country-barn-meets-urban-loft. Photos of the completed home grace the pages of the magazine; here, we share the rough “before” shots, which further divulge the story of the home’s dramatic makeover.
During perhaps the most dramatic stage of the project, the middle of the house and rear sunroom were demolished, and a new one-room barn with attached sunroom was built. The only thing standing in the middle of the house was the chimney in mid-air, flanked by the finished garage on the right and the bedroom wing on the left.
