The young furniture maker Eric Ritter has turned his circa-1790 farmhouse in New Gloucester into an inspiring design studio and workshop. Ritter’s story is told in our August 2008 profile, “The Futurist Obsessed with the Past.” The visual story of Ritter’s outdoor furniture line, Morphology, is told here in photographs by Irvin Serrano.
Ritter bends the stainless steel for every component of a Morphology chair, table, or plant stand before welding them himself.
Ritter rubs the stainless steel with bees wax from his own hives.
Ritter slices hardwoods and laminates them back together to creat the elegant and comfortable slats and seats.
Ritter's has a passion for his materials and takes extra care with the reclaimed barn board he has begun incorporating into his designs.
And in the end...
