I woke early on the Sunday morning I drove to Bethel to visit with Karl and Kym Wadensten and gather notes for our January/February cover story, “Snowbound in Bethel.” I was on the road north before seven. As the sun rose and cast a glow over that rare mid-November day, I couldn’t help but pull my car over several times and capture the scenes that caught my eye as I raced up Route 26.

Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to see several amazing plays at the Portland Stage Company. Last year’s brilliant per- formances of “Noises Off” and “Augusta” come to mind immediately—like all good theater, The Stage Company seems to consistently offer plays with a varied range of tone and emotion.

1) Five Fifty-Five’s Chef Steve Corry recently prepared one of his famous five-course tasting menus for me. The meal was at once so elegant and so down-to-earth that it reminded me of a magnificent blend between Portland’s Fore Street restaurant circa 1996 and a Friday night in August at Arrows in Ogunquit. That meal, the story of Chef Corry, his wife Michelle, and their restaurant-odyssey are recounted in MH+D’s January/February feature, “The Many Layered Courses of Five Fifty-Five.”

Several weeks ago we learned that Maine HOME+DESIGN had been placed on the newsstands in New York City's Penn Station. This makes MH+D one of the only New England-centric magazine titles sold in the Big Apple's famous commuter hub.
